Elizabeth padded into the greenhouse, feeling lonelier that she ever had in her first month here. For the most part, the other patients were too long gone to even attempt to talk to, and the staff were cruel and unapproachable. She knew she wasn't crazy, just very sad. She knew she didn't belong here in with the old women who spoke to their dead husbands as if they were right beside them. She was as alone in the world as she was alone in this greenhouse. It was just her and the sweet smelling fauna against the entire universe.
She sighed and walked to the farthest edge of the greenhouse from the door, to her usual corner. She liked it there, and it was one of the places that felt safe. Sure, it got dirt and dust on her pants and there was the occasional spider, but it was quiet and concrete and safe. The greenhouse always smelled the most strongly of lilacs, and she loved that. She used to have a lilac plant in her room, a long time ago when she was different.
She inhaled the aroma deeply and sighed softly. Through the foggy glass ceiling of the house she could see the clouds, looking soft and touchable in the sky. Often she found herself staring at them for hours, daydreaming of being like them, going wherever the wind took her. Today however, she was simply too sad to let her mind float away. She was stuck in Ravenwood, this institution, the loneliest place on Earth.
There were perks of being here though, like the staff's recurring carelessness on the checking of her food intake. She couldn't remember the last time she had eaten more than a handful and the staff were completely unaware. Sometimes she thought of stopping completely and seeing if they noticed before she died. There was also the plus of being far away from her family, and they hardly ever visited.
She bit her lip to keep the memories away, and stared blankly at the yellow flowers across from her. Relax, relax, She instructed herself in her head. She looked long enough to let her vision fuzz out, and just focused on keeping the threat of tears at bay. She didn't want to break down again so soon.

It wasn't creepy, was it? Following people, that is. It was technically stalking but- but it wasn't creepy! At least she didn't mean it to be. She only started following the blonde because she was leaving the building and Aurora had only so much experience with that. Aurora had seen the girl around the building, she seemed calm enough. . .but that was just by looking. Never judge a book by it's cover.
She stalked the girl out of the building, staying in the doorway to watch where the strange girl was going. The other crossed the yard towards the greenhouse, the place had intrigued her but it seemed like the kind of place you didn't want to go by yourself for the first time. What if it was over run with flora and bugs? Or just generally abandoned- this seemed like the kind of asylum to have an abandoned greenhouse, but the girl still went in.
Aurora jogged across the yard to the greenhouse and pulled the door open a little. She took in a breath to call for the girl she'd effectively been stalking but- oh. This place smelled amazing. She stepped in and closed the door, stepping lightly over blooming flowers in front of her. Her lips turned up into what felt like her first smile since being here. Azaleas?
After literally stopping to smell the flowers, she peered around the table to search for the blonde. "Hello?" she called softly, voice soft but a little naturally raspy, "Hello is there someone here?" Maybe there were secret passages and she was gone. . .like in Hogwarts.

Elizabeth jumped a foot in the air when she heard a female voice call out. She was so enveloped in her own world that she wasn't remotely aware to her surroundings. Her heart was pounding in her chest. If this girl was a murderer, she was dead. A goner.Staff and patients, she knew, hardly came out to the greenhouse. They would never hear her scream. If they did, they wouldn't care.
But what other choice did she have but to answer? It would be worse if she kept quiet, scared and hushed like a child. She was braver than that, wasn't she? "I'm here," She heard her own timid voice reply. As paranoid as she was about killers, she had to admit that the voice didn't seem like a killer, rather, just curious. But not evil.
She shifted to her feet to look around the room of flowers. Once she was standing full height, she saw a brunette girl in the greenhouse with her. She breathed in sharply, shocked at the closeness of the other girl, looking around her own age. How did I not hear her come in? She thought to herself. She was going to say something, anything. Like a "hello" or, "who are you?" but she said nothing. She was too nervous to be the one to break the silence again first. She just looked at the girl curiously. Maybe she was okay, and Elizabeth was just being paranoid?

Aurora held her breath until the other replied. She was honestly afraid the blonde girl would have a secret way out of here and that, any second now, she would hear the scurried rushings of a girl running away. But no- "I'm here,"a timid voice rang from the back of the greenhouse.
She stepped side to side, looking if she could see the body the voice belonged to. When the other stood up and Aurora could better see her, she smiled with relief. . .but other responded with a gasp. "I'm sorry," she said right away, putting her hands up a little to show she meant no harm. Her smile faded a little from an excited smile to something much softer, she didn't want to scare the other. "I didn't mean to scare you. . .I just. . .I saw you come in here-" stalked you in here "-and I. . ." hope you think that isn't as creepy as it looks.
Her arms lowered back to her side as she took a hesitant step forward to put out her hand to the seemingly younger girl. "I'm Aurora. . .I just. . .I'm new here!" goodness this was awkward. She um-ed for a moment as she gathered her thoughts as she bit her lip nervously, "Y-yeah. I'm new here and I saw you leaving. . .you looked like you knew this place so I kind of followed you- not in a creepy way-" she made sure to emphasize that, "-however I didn't stop you because. . .you looked like you were on a mission. . .This place is really nice. . .I didn't expect that."
Aurora's eyes wandered for a moment: up to the foggy ceiling, down to the lush plants, to the other girls shoes and back up to her face. She dared smile again, encouraging the girl on the other end of her hand to take it. She wasn't bad and wouldn't bite- she just wanted the other to know that.

Elizabeth sighed slightly in relief when the brunette spoke that she was sorry and held up her arms. It made her feel safer, like she wasn't a psycho plotting Elizabeth's demise. The other girl explained that she hadn't meant to scare her, and Elizabeth smiled a bit, finding it funny how easily she was scared recently. She nodded a bit, to let the girl know that she understood.
She didn't love the idea that she was followed, but she didn't hate it either. Especially if someone as seemingly nice as this followed her! So, her name was Aurora? That's such a pretty name, she thought to herself. And she was new? That was interesting. Elizabeth was pretty new herself, only being here for a few months, but she had never seen Aurora so it made sense that she was new to the block.
Elizabeth realized with a wince that she'd been silent this whole time. She made an effort to speak up. "Oh- that's okay." She reassured Aurora. Seeing the girl's hand, waiting for her to shake it, she stepped closer and held it in her own small hands. "I'm Elizabeth. I-come here a lot to get away from the staff and such...yeah, it is quite lovely in here, isn't it?" She smiled, a genuine smile, which shocked her. "...How long have you been here?"
