Aurora was new to Ravenwood and, since she had been sort of shut down since arriving, she had been staying in her room as much as possible. However, today she was practically forced out of her room. The walls around her made her feel like she couldn't breathe- they were dark and everything felt dreary; suffocating.
From there, the logical step was to get out. So she did, escaping into the courtyard. She took deep breaths and looked up to the sky- open space. Open space again. Fresh air, not stagnant cell block air. This was better. Then it hit her- this was her first time out of her room.
Aurora moved to the middle of the grass and sat down facing the building. That's what her new home looked like, hm? It looked. . .nicer on the outside. Why couldn't she just camp out here, be treated in the shade of the trees- that would be better for the whole 'not wanting to commit suicide' deal. Inside made her feel like she could possibly be dead already.
She pulled her knees up to her chest and watched people come and go. A part of her wanted someone to look her way, to make eye contact, so she could smile at them and maybe make a friend but. . .well, she assumed other people had bigger problems.

Bigger problems indeed. Emma wandered her way outside into the fresh air and blinding sunlight. She would have lit a cigarette if she could have. It would be easier for her to get them in a couple of months when she turned 18 but... until then it left her on edge. Very on edge. Though she had managed to gain the favour of one particular orderly, who would certainly get fired soon for the things he did for her. She didn't care any more than she would for anybody else, he had just seemed to take a shining to her and it was nifty for her, to get little things like a cigarette out of him every so often.
And that's exactly what she did. She saw him on her way out the door and he followed her, cigarette in hand. It was really useful, being pretty. He lit it for her and watched her walk into the middle of the yard, near to where the pretty brunette sat and she knew he'd be keeping a close eye on her. He knew she wasn't above burning someone who pissed her off. There was little danger of that out here today though, as far as she could see it was just her and this pretty girl out there right now.
Emma did more than make eye contact, she marched over and sat beside the brunette, smiling widely at her in what she could only hope was a friendly way.
The wild blonde had been having a particularly bad day so far today, until they had managed to medicate her. She still wasn't completely sure how they'd managed to subdue her so easily. They had been right to send her to such an establishment, they did seem better equipped to deal with her here.
"That dazed look on your face tells me you haven't ventured out of your room much since getting here," she said dismissively. "I don't blame you, this place isn't incredibly exciting or anything like that. I'm Emma."
She offered her hand for a handshake but doubted she would be taken up on the offer. She liked to touch people she'd just met, it gave her a better sense of who they were. Or it made her feel like it did anyway. Emma was trying to come off as friendly, it was more for self preservation than anything else but she could use a friend. Emma could always use a friend. She could very well be here for the rest of her life, she'd need to make connections with a few people in order to survive it.

Aurora's eyes darted to the new movement in the yard and watched carefully. A girl an her- . . .well that couldn't be the orderly assigned to the girl, could it? He was giving her a smoke. . .was that even allowed in here? . . .not that she cared; smoking wasn't good for you.
But neither was swallowing every pill you could get your hands on in an attempt to kill yourself.
Oh. Oh. . .she was coming closer. Aurora just stared at her as she approached. What? She was- this girl saw her and she was approaching with intent. The brunette just stared as the girl approached. She was pretty. . .really pretty; blonde hair, soft eyes. . .nice colour- beautiful.
It took a moment for her to respond, not sure if what had been said was meant to be offensive. It couldn't be. . .why would you venture all the way out here just to insult people. Hesitantly, Aurora reached out and gave Emma's hand a weak shake, just one. "Yes," she started, quiet at first but clearing her throat and speaking her next words louder, "Well. . .I just got here. . .it's just stagnant in there. It's nice out here."
"Would you. . ." Aurora gestured to the grass next to her, "Like to sit a while or-" she nodded back to the door where her orderly was, "Do you have someone waiting for you?"
